The recent Tsunami and earthquake in Japan left many people in a state of shock, sadness, fear, and anxiety. Many survivors are still looking for missing family members and friends. It is inevitable that many people in Japan will develop Post Traumatic Stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of this natural disaster. In addition, it is common for trauma survivors to have symptoms of depression, anxiety and insomnia.

PTSD is an Anxiety disorder. Its symptoms include anxiety, panic attacks, flashbulb memory of traumatic events, nightmares etc. Symptoms of PTSD are similar to anxiety and depression. In order to treat PTSD, patients may need therapy, whether individually or as part of a support group. If the patient's depression or anxiety is severe enough to impair their daily, occupational and social functioning, then pharmacotherapy via antidepressants may be appropriate. It is important to start psychological counseling as soon as possible. Patients may need to see licensed psychotherapists once to three times a week.

Cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) and EMDR (Eye Movement desensitization and reprocessing) are known to be effective for treating PTSD. Perhaps, exposure therapy may be helpful to alleviate their symptoms after a therapist and a client establish a therapeutic relationship.

Experienced counselors and therapists can also help traumatized children, seniors and adults with basic counseling and psychotherapy skills. No matter where any of us begin, we ultimately choose the sort of life we lead. In my memoir All Cookies ain't Sweet, I share my story as a child growing up in the care of social services and the trials and tribulations of such an upbringing. My formative years were anything but a cakewalk, though it's this tumultuous past that fuels my life's passion to help children within foster care and social service systems excel. I now travel around the world as a motivational speaker sharing my stories and ideas with teens, college students, business leaders, and community members.

It brings me joy when I can offer guidance to troubled teens who are experiencing similar situations in the foster care system. I was not always the confident businesswoman you see before you today. I struggled to make my way in the world, and through fate and determination have taken advantage of multiple opportunities extended to me.

1. Job Corps

My first real eye-opening experience was with Westover Job Corps Center in Chicopee, Massachusetts. It was here that I learned what was needed to succeed in business and in life. I learned the education, vocational, and life skills that would form the basis of my work ethic. I committed the Job Corps motto to heart: "Success Lasts a Lifetime with Job Corps."

2. Counseling Workshops

Many years after graduating from the Job Corps program, I took advantage of another opportunity that came my way. I started my career in counseling working at the very same site where I gained my footing. At Westover Jobs Corps Center, I threw every ounce of my energy into learning all I could about the way the program worked. I worked closely with the human resources, education, career development, dorm life, and the recreational aspects of the center. My job as a motivational speaker grew from the combination of my work experience and my life experience.

3. Share Experiences

Over the years, I have designed and produced successful programs and events for national corporations as well as community organizations. As so many good things do, I started small. The conferences and workshops grew as I gained confidence and experience. I started by visiting schools and mentoring individual students. Now, I work with my team to take advantage of the new opportunities being offered every day. We still visit schools and mentor individual students, but we also provide programs for people of all ages, specifically tailored to the event.

4. Value Education

I am grateful that at this point in my life I am able to travel to better share my ideas and inspiration. We visit college and university campuses, juvenile and correctional programs, and leadership conferences. My team has also been contracted for nonprofit, state, and federal programs.

5. Self Discovery

With the success of my team, we always maintain our areas of focus. We encourage teenagers to heighten their motivation and work through their failures. We teach them self-discovery to help them avoid gangs and gang-related violence. My team provides incentives for student leadership by teaching the students to set individual long-term and short-term goals. Our unique method of incorporating parents into our sessions provides lasting results.

6. Communication

In addition to these areas of focus, we also stress the importance of communication and teamwork. Communication on a personal level translates to success on a business level. We teach anger management and life skills to teenagers who have problems with attitude and self-respect. We encourage and prepare all of our participants, child and parent, to pursue college educations.

I wrote All Cookies ain't Sweet with all this in mind. I share my story to show teenagers and struggling adults that there are options and that we are the authors of our destiny and that even though it's true that all cookies aren't exactly sweet, we control how they crumble. There are many opportunities in this life that a person may pass up because they feel as if they are unworthy or incapable of reaching a particular goal. I, too, have felt unworthy and incapable at different points in my life. Now, I help others overcome their problems by providing them with the tools that helped me succeed.

How to Make Italian Ham Panini

Italy is one of the best places in the world to produce the finest cuisines and fantastic dishes, not to forget the good wine, of course. Remember spaghetti and pizza treats that no one could resist? Well, Italy has definitely become very well known for that, but there is more to Italian foods than these things. And what about those enticing Italian sandwiches called Panini such as Ham Panini or Turkey Panini?

Panino, or Panini in plural form, is a famous sandwich made of a small loaf of bread that is cut horizontally, stuffed with your choice of meat products, cheese, herbs and spices, vegetables, and other ingredients. Panini sandwiches vary: some would have it served without the sauce or topping, as their tradition dictates; some would prefer to add sauce to fit in with their local taste. In whatever style you want your Panini to be, keep in mind though that the best way to cook Panini is to cook it in a Panini grill or press.

To help you get started here's a sample recipe for the Italian Ham Panini, which is good if you have ham leftovers in your fridge.

You will need to prepare the following ingredients:

-Thinly-sliced ham; leftovers are good
-Italian loaf bread
-Fresh mozzarella
-Provolone cheese
-Fresh basil leaves, or fresh spinach, rinse and pat dry
-Extra virgin olive oil
-Red wine vinegar
-Salt and pepper

Then follow the steps below:

1-Cut the Italian loaf in half. On each side of the cut bread, place thin slices of mozzarella to keep in tact the bread halves together when placed in Panini press.

2-Put a topping of fresh spinach, or fresh basil leaves, on the mozzarella.

3-Sprinkle it with a good amount of vinegar, olive oil, and salt and pepper to get the best flavor from it.

4-Next, layer it with provolone cheese.

5-Then top it with thinly-sliced ham. Shower some more salt and pepper.

6-Put together the two halves of bread and close it up.

7-Lastly, brush some olive oil before putting it on the grill.

8-Let it grill until the cheese is seen to melt.

9-Remove it from the grill. Let it cool for a few minutes until it's not too hot to hold anymore. Slice it into your desired cuts.

10-Then serve and enjoy your Panini!

Panini sandwiches are not only healthy and delicious treats for everyone; it is the most preferred food-to-go these days by busy bodies.
